WSU Wine Science Center

Washington State University

FSi was the mechanical engineer for Washington State University’s new, 39,000 sf Wine Science Center (WSC). The WSC houses the State of Washington’s first four-year winery science degree program, and supports Washington’s growing wine industry. The research labs focus on the specific soils, growing conditions, and varietals in our state. The new facility includes 13,000 sf of classrooms and offices, 8,500 sf of laboratory space, and a 9,500 sf winery. FSi designed the HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the new facility, including specialty winery and laboratory systems.

FSi developed an in-depth energy model and provided life cycle cost analysis to aid in the assessment and final selection of the buildings mechanical systems. The project achieved LEED Certification, with high-performing mechanical systems including an air-to-air heat exchanger for the laboratory HVAC system.

The WSC was featured in the January 2016 issue of Practical Winery and Vineyard magazine. You can read that article here: WSUWineStudies_PWVJan2016
