Youth Service Center HVAC Upgrade
King County Facilities Management Division
FSi was the prime consultant for HVAC upgrades to the 48-bed Youth Service Center. The facility maintained full occupancy and operations during construction.
We investigated issues including a noisy water-source heat pump system, low airflow, and poor occupant comfort, and provided a report of root causes, potential fixes, and preliminary cost estimates.
Based on our report, King County moved forward with priority upgrades within a $450,000 budget. We designed upgrades to increase outside air supply, improve thermal control for greater occupant comfort, provide more usable floor space in the clinic, and create a tight negative/positive pressure controlled room to house infectious patients during treatment.
We developed construction documents and provided construction administration. The project was phased to keep the facility fully occupied and functional throughout construction.
