Yakima Post Office

US Postal Service

FSi was the mechanical engineer for a chiller replacement and energy efficiency upgrade for the Yakima Main Post Office. Upgrades included increased efficiency motors, higher efficiency chillers, VFD on all pump motors, and an extensive DDC overhaul of the existing 40 year old pneumatic control system. FSi developed several replacement options, providing energy and energy cost modeling, using a 20-year LCCA basis. This analysis enabled USPS to select the option with the lowest life cycle cost.

The project reduced the building’s energy use by 34%. Energy saving measures included no-/low-cost upgrades to cut energy use by over 20%, including investigating and recommending minor repairs to a stuck damper, and controls sequences adjustments to match current schedules.
