Olive Ridge Apartments Water Piping Replacement
Seattle Housing Authority
FSi was the prime consultant for domestic water piping replacement for the Seattle Housing Authority’s (SHA) Olive Ridge Apartments. Olive Ridge is a 25 year old, 107-unit, senior and disabled housing building.
FSi found a considerable amount of corrosion and obscuration in the piping causing water discoloration and lowering water pressure for both hot and cold water. FSi researched a number of alternatives, including newer epoxy coating lining techniques, and provided SHA with thorough report enabling them to make a well-informed decision to replace the drinking water piping at Olive Ridge with new copper piping as a prototype for piping replacements at other facilities.
FSi led design and construction administration for the project, which included significant asbestos abatement. FSi’s construction documents outlined limitations on the contractor and a phasing plan to ensure resident safety, and limit the time occupants were without water to less than one day.
