Lowell Elementary Boiler Replacement

Seattle Public Schools

FSi designed replacement of the 1960s steam boiler, converter, and constant speed pumps with a modern, efficient condensing boiler and variable frequency drive (VFD) pumps. We provided life cycle cost analysis of several options including DDC controls, VFD pumps, and various boiler configurations. The school district opted to install VFD pumps with inverter rated motors and two condensing boilers. FSi also designed replacement of steam radiators and the shortening of the chimney stack for seismic safety. The upgrade reduces energy use by 15% per year.
