Jane Addams Modernization

Seattle Public Schools

FSi was the mechanical engineer for the modernization of the Jane Addams School. Building from our previous plumbing replacement and full DDC controls system replacement projects at the school, FSi helped Hutteball and Oremus Architecture with a complete modernization. Construction of the upgrades were done over three years under three separate construction contracts.

Jane Addams has been used as a middle school, elementary school, and as a private school site in recent years, while retaining most of the original 1950s finishes. This project included updates to classrooms and public spaces, and significant structural upgrades. FSi’s scope included working in conjunction with the structural engineer to remove the existing smokestack, as well as mechanical and plumbing upgrades for new locker rooms, restroom upgrades, cafeteria/kitchen upgrades, a new art classroom, and improvements to the science classrooms.

The project resulted in an updated school with more functional classrooms, a healthier learning environment, improved technical facilities, and an improved structural system.
