FSi Principals

Michael Eshelman and Rob Danforth have been partners and principals of FSi since 1994. Rob joined the firm in 1989, Michael in 1990, and they started their working relationship back in 1980. Their quarter-century-long relationship is instrumental in creating the FSi culture of valuing each person’s contribution, and the focus on personal skills as a critical compliment to technical skills.

Rob grew up on a wheat farm in Eastern Washington, and moved west to the big city for college. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1977 with a mechanical engineering degree. Early in his career, he focused on health care and laboratory projects, and received his Washington professional license in 1981. Moving towards project management Rob further developed his communication skills. Since becoming President of the company in 1996, Rob’s preferred area of interest is industrial ventilation and has designed systems for manufacturing, odor control, and painting applications – including hangars used to paint commercial aircraft. In his spare time, Rob might be skiing or playing golf, or taking in a Mariners or Huskies game.

Growing up in a family of teachers, Michael spent time in both Western Washington and California. He also went to the UW, graduating in 1981. His initial focus was on the design of chilled and heating water systems, and then on to building control systems and construction specifications. Michael received his Washington license in 1987 and Alaska in 1992 . He has helped FSi develop a culture that values growth and learning; communication and team building. Michael’s favorite type of design centers on pipes, pumps, boilers and chillers; along with their operation and control. When he is not at work, you might find him gardening, at an exercise class, or traveling.

The two principals bring a wide range of skills and experience. The duration of their professional and personal relationship is a testament to their ability to reach consensus, develop plans and implement them The diversity in their styles and approach gives FSi a strong overall perspective, brings strength to the company and provides an ability to respond to diverse situations. Whether it is big picture versus details, being excited or calm, designing ducts or pipes, they combine to bring all of the pieces of the puzzle together – and our clients benefit from a well rounded approach.
