Greenbridge Hope VI Housing
FSi consulting engineers is providing mechanical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services on this revitalization project.
This ambitious project is removing 569 World War II-era single-story duplex public housing units and several support buildings on the existing 90-acre White Center site. Replacing them will be a diverse neighborhood community of families occupying approximately 900 dwellings following an urban design plan rooted in principles of New Urbanism and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. The project includes 300 very low-income rental homes, 200 “workforce” homes (tax-credit rental homes for those families earning 50% to 60% of median area income), as well as 400 for-sale homes for first-time and market-rate homebuyers. The project was made possible by a HUD Hope Vi grant to the King County Housing Authority. Special efforts have been made to preserve existing stands of heritage trees, integrate a resident relocation plan and an interim infrastructure plan with project phasing, and address the realities of grading, traffic, drainage, utilities and right-of-way design into the proposed, reconnected street grid.
