Other Industrial Facility Projects

Details about a few other projects.

  • Boeing Commercial Cedar River Bridge Utility Relocation FSi was a subconsultant on this project to provide detailed piping design for the relocation of existing utilities on the south Cedar River bridge. The south bridge is a vital aircraft crossing from the Renton plant to the airport. Due to the bridge’s importance and the seasonal flooding of the Cedar River, which carries debris that could potentially damage the bridge, it was decided that the bridge should have the ability to be raised up to protect it from the river. FSi’s scope of the project involved the relocation of several utilities: fire water main, compressed air supply, sanitary sewer forced main, communication cables and fiber optics. Through coordination with the City of Renton, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Boeing Fire Protection and others the final decision was to direct bury all of the utilities in a trench at the bottom of the river. A rigid pipe support frame was designed to span the entire width of the river to provide adequate thrust blocking of the fire water main and support of all the other piping.
  • Lynnwood Post Office Oil/Water Separation System Addition FSi provided the mechanical design for the installation of a high efficiency oil water separation system. The system includes an explosion-proof sump pump, a waste holding tank, 3-stage pumped filtration, and an oil holding tank. The effectiveness of the system allows wastewater to be discharged directly to the local sanitary system.
  • Boeing Commercial Stub Oven, 767 Assembly Building FSi designed this Clean, Seal, and Paint Oven for the 767 Aircraft Wing Stub. The air handling, duct distribution, and fire protection systems were integrated into a wing tooling assembly which has a removable structure to allow for wing relocation upon completion of the manufacturing process. The paint area required airflow adjustment for painting and masking, exhausting ammonia, ventilating the wing interior, and capturing paint overspray. Utilities required in the process include vacuum, compressed air, ammonia, and high pressure wash solution. The schedule required a 90-day design with pre-purchase of major equipment at the 90% submittal in order to meet the client’s deadlines.
  • Boeing Commercial Solvent Dispensing System FSi provided the mechanical and electrical design for this project to install an automated solvent dispensing and bottling system. Work included piping for the various fluids being bottled, coordination with Boeing Equipment Engineering on controls and monitoring, ventilation to maintain proper LEL levels, and electrical to support the equipment and alarms.
  • Boeing Commercial Dangerous Waste Tank and Shelter As prime consultant, FSi provided the concept design for removal of one of Boeing West Region Tank Line’s existing 1000 gallon dangerous waste tanks. The tank will be replaced with two 4000 gallon aboveground tanks along with associated piping and controls. The design included a new chemical add station and the modification of the existing chemical storage area. Architectural, structural engineering and electrical engineering support were provided by sub-consultants to FSi.
