U.S. Joint Forces Command Crisis Action Facility
FSi provided mechanical and fire protection design services for this 95,400 square foot facility for the U.S. Joint Forces Command in Dahlgren, Virginia.
The facility serves as the Joint Agent for the integration and analysis of data concerning infrastructure networks. The building consists of a central Crisis Action Center surrounded by support offices. The building is compartmented into multiple acoustically isolated departments and includes multiple computer installations. The systems are designed to provide continuous operation and include redundant equipment and back-up energy sources. The building systems included boilers, chillers, primary/secondary pumping, HVAC, heating and cooling piping, plumbing, fire protection and DDC controls. FSi also provided construction support services. Of the 260 Requests For Information (RFIs) on the job, only 16 were mechanical. Of the nearly $3 million of mechanical work, there were less than 2% change orders – the majority of which were from Owner requested changes.
